In 2022, China's artificial diamond exceeded 20 billion carats, cubic boron nitride reached 600 million carats, and the industry's output value reached 100 billion yuan. The output of synthetic diamond and cubic boron nitride in Henan Province accounts for 80% and 95% of the national total, respectively. There are a number of leading enterprises in the industry, such as Sanmo Institute, Yellow River Whirlwind, Zhongnan Diamond, Zhengzhou Huajing, Funnike, Sifang Da, as well as professional scientific research institutes and universities.

"After years of accumulation and development, Henan Province has formed a development pattern with superhard materials and products as the core, raw and auxiliary materials and special equipment and instruments as the foundation, and public technical service system as the support." Although the superhard material industry in Henan Province has a good foundation and obvious advantages, compared with the international advanced level, there are still shortcomings such as the backward development of products and composite materials, the lack of competitive advantage of high-quality products, the low degree of industrial concentration, and the lack of high-end talents.
